Rotterdamse haven
Martin Groen was born on March 21, 1959, in The Hague, The Netherlands. He drew from a young age. His father drew and painted regularly, and his brother made etchings and pen drawings. He also became fascinated by his grandfather from Scheveningen, who drew sailing luggers with billowing sails in storms on the high seas on the backs of cigar boxes.
His teachers discovered his talent very early, in elementary school. In the upper grades, he made blackboard drawings for the teacher and assisted during drawing lessons. It was therefore not surprising that he later chose drawing as a specialization at the Teacher Training College. Later, he took painting classes at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague and studied with the Hague artist Grada Bouman, a member of Pulchri. Martin has had many shows, both local and abroad.
